The owner of a filling station in Matlab Dakshin Upazila of Chandpur has been jailed for one year failing to show accounts of the purchase, storage and sale of diesel, petrol and octane.
Accused is Md Mizanur Rahman, owner of the Naureen Filling Station located in the Kajli Cinema Hall area of the upazila.
A mobile court, led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) of the district administration and Executive Magistrate Tanvir Rabbi, gave him the jail sentence drive there from Monday afternoon to evening.
According to the district and upazila administration and local sources, petrol, diesel and octane were being sold at the Naureen filling station since March 9. There are allegations that the owner of the filling station is creating an artificial shortage of oil by hoarding fuel oil.
During interrogation, Mizanur Rahman, failed to show information about the purchase, sale and storage of fuel oil at his establishment.
Tanvir Rabbi, said that the owner of the filling station has been sentenced to one year simple imprisonment and fined of Tk 5,000.
Matlab South Upazila Nirbahi Officer KM Ishmam, confirming the truth of the incident said, surveillance will continue to be maintained to ensure that no filling station owner can create a crisis by stockpiling fuel oil in his upazila and sell fuel at a higher price.
