Child killed in landslide in Chattogram
A 12-year-old girl was killed after being buried under earth in a landslide at Chashma Hill under Panchlaish Police Station in Chattogram city on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 1:00 pm. The deceased, identified as Samiya Islam, was the daughter of Faruk Hossain, a resident of the area.
According to the Fire Service, a portion of the hill collapsed onto the family's house, trapping Samiya inside. While her parents managed to escape safely, Samiya, who was in an adjacent room at the time, was unable to get out and was buried under the debris.
A team from the Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the information and launched a rescue operation. Samiya was later recovered from beneath the debris, but she had died at the scene.
Deputy Assistant Director of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence, Shah Imran, confirmed the incident, saying firefighters responded promptly after being informed of the landslide and carried out the rescue operation.
