A child died after drowning in a pond in Sunamganj’s Dharampasha upazila on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Alif, 4, son of Suman Mia, a resident of Gabi village under Selbarash union of the upazila.

According to locals, the child was playing with other children near his house when he fell into a nearby pond unnoticed and went missing.

Later, family members and locals searched the area, recovered him from the pond in an unconscious state and rushed him to Dharampasha Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Selbarash Union Parishad (UP) chairman Golam Farid Khoka confirmed the incident.
