A drone operated by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) was recovered by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after it reportedly entered Bangladeshi territory in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon near the Muglibari border area of Burimari union, close to sub-pillar 841/8, according to BGB and local sources.

Eyewitnesses and border officials said members of BSF’s 98 Battalion, stationed at Himalaya camp, were using the drone for aerial surveillance and video recording when it developed a technical malfunction. The device then fell approximately 15 to 20 yards inside Bangladesh, landing in a maize field.

A local farmer first spotted the drone, after which BSF personnel gathered near the border, creating tension in the area. BGB members from a nearby camp later recovered the drone and took it into custody.

A BGB official at Burimari company headquarters, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the drone was secured with the help of locals and is currently under BGB custody. The incident has been reported to higher authorities and further action will be taken based on instructions.

Lieutenant Colonel Syed Fazle Muneem, commanding officer of BGB’s Rangpur 61 Battalion (Tista-2), said the BSF’s Himalaya Company commander contacted the Burimari BGB company commander regarding the drone.

BGB officials confirmed that the device remains in their possession and that next steps will be decided by higher authorities following consultations between the two sides.
