The dismembered body of a six-year-old girl was recovered by police on Wednesday morning, two days after she went missing from Kalmakanda upazila in Netrokona district.
The deceased was identified as Jannatul, daughter of Asad Mia from Hugla village of the upazila.
According to police and family sources, Jannatul went missing on Monday afternoon while playing near her home. Being failed to locate her after immense search, the family sought help from Fire Service department, who also conducted search operattions in nearby ponds and water bodies only to be failed.
Later, her father filed a general diary (GD) with Kalmakanda Police Station.
On Wednesday morning, a local resident spotted the remains of the child in a paddy field behind her own house.
Kalmakanda Police Station officer-in-charge Md Siddiqur Rahman stated that an investigation is underway.
"Primary investigation suggests that the body was partially dismembered by wild animals, such as foxes or dogs," the OC said.
The remains have been sent to Netrokona Sadar Hospital for an autopsy and a case will be filed in connection with the incident, the official added.
