A coaching center teacher was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) as prime suspect in a case involving the rape of a nine-year-old student at Pirgachha upazila in Rangpur district.

The arrested is identified as Delwar Hossain, 33, son of Mofizul Islam from the Sundar area of Pirgachha upazila, ran a facility called Ma Coaching Center.

Biplob Kumar Goswami, Assistant Director of RAB-13, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing on Friday.

According to the case details, the victim was a regular student at Delwar's center. The abuse reportedly began during the last month of Ramadan while the suspect's wife was away at her father's house.

On the fifth day of Ramadan, Delwar allegedly confined the child in a room and raped her at knifepoint. Although the child became physically ill, she initially remained silent out of fear.

The suspect continued to abuse the child on multiple occasions until April 19, when the girl’s cry for help during another attempted assault alerted locals. As neighbors rushed to the scene, Delwar managed to flee.

The victim's mother filed a formal complaint with Pirgachha Police Station  on April 22.

Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team conducted a drive at Konabari Rupjan Tower area of Gazipur on Wednesday night and arrested the suspect, reads a press release.

Biplob Kumar Goswami added that following his arrest, Delwar has been handed over to the relevant police station for further legal proceedings.
