A 42-year-old man was reportedly hacked to death on Saturday by a group of assailants before they dumped the body in a pond at Satkhira Sadar upazila.
The deceased was identified as Jinnat Ali alias Jinnah, 42, son of Mohar Ali Sardar, resident of Sarba Kashempur village.
Local residents spotted the victim's body parts floating in a pond near Sarba Kashempur Housing Project around 6:15 AM.
Following a call to the national emergency service 999, a team from the Brahmrajpur Police Camp went to the scene and retrieved the body at around 7:00 AM.
Preliminary police reports indicated multiple deep wounds caused by sharp weapons on the victim's forehead, behind the right ear and the back of the head. Investigating officers believe the murder took place sometime during the night.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (operation) Sushanta Ghosh confirmed that the body has been sent for an autopsy and stated that a rigorous investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Legal proceedings are currently in progress, he added.
