The four-day Police Week-2026 will begin on Sunday under the theme, "My Police, My Country, Bangladesh First." The event, to be held with colorful arrangements at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital, will continue until May 13.
On the opening day of Police Week, 107 officers and members serving in different units of Bangladesh Police will be awarded the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and President Police Medal (PPM) in recognition of their bravery, heroism and professional excellence.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will hand over the medals at a ceremony to be held at Rajarbagh Police Lines on Sunday morning.
Like previous years, Police Week has generated significant interest among policymakers and members of the police force. The event is considered important as it not only recognizes notable achievements and commendable performances of the previous year, but also provides an opportunity to place various demands before the head of government.
According to police sources, six major proposals will be raised during this year's Police Week. These include the appointment of police officers to embassies and related institutions, establishment of a central cyber crime unit for police, introduction of a separate police medical service, setting up two training centers in Sylhet and Barishal along with a specialized training center at the discussed Jangal Salimpur area in Chattogram, initiatives to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of police personnel, and formation of an aviation police unit.
The formal inauguration of Police Week will begin on Sunday morning with the annual police parade. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inspect the parade of different contingents and flag-bearing teams and take salute. He is also expected to deliver directives to police members.
On the occasion of Police Week, separate messages have been issued by President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Home Adviser Salahuddin Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Monjur Morshed Chowdhury, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir.
