Two men were arrested in connection with the murder of an auto-rickshaw driver who was drugged and robbed at Anwara upazila of Chattogram on Monday morning.

The suspects, identified as Md. Jamal, alias Galkata Jamal, 52, and Md. Abdul Jabbar, 31, were arrested during drives at Bakalia and Patiya areas.

The victim, Ayub Ali, went missing on April 20 after leaving home with his auto-rickshaw.

He was later found unconscious by pedestrians near the Sholkata road crossing and rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. After a week, Ali passed away on the morning of April 27.

Following his death, the vehicle's owner filed a case on May 6 alleging murder, drugging and theft.

Police revealed that Jamal is a prominent member of an inter-district robbery gang specializing in the use of sedatives to hijack vehicles. He reportedly faces multiple charges for similar crimes across the country.

Anwara Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Junayet Chowdhury stated that the investigation is ongoing to uncover further details regarding the criminal network.
