KHULNA, May 11: Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University Professor Dr. Md Rezaul Karim on Monday said there is no alternative to research for the career development of young university teachers.

He made the remarks while addressing the inaugural session of a day-long workshop titled "Research for Academics: Early Career Perspective", organised by the university's Research and Innovation Centre (RIC), at the central research conference room.

The VC said the current administration aims to transform Khulna University into an impactful research university.

To achieve the goal, researchers must maintain their own originality while proving their capabilities in global academic competition.

He said the university has already undertaken various initiatives to ensure visible progress in research activities.

Highlighting the importance of research for young academics, he urged newly recruited teachers to develop a research-oriented mindset from the beginning of their careers.

The VC also stressed the need for awareness and ethical practices in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in research and academia.

He added that initiatives have been taken to index the "Khulna University Studies" journal to enhance the quality and international recognition of the university's research publications.

Speaking as special guest, Treasurer Professor Dr. Md Nurunnabi  said university teachers should engage in research activities from the outset of their professional careers, as quality research builds academic and professional competence.

RIC Director Professor Dr. Kazi Mohammad Didarul Islam presided over the event.

Among others, Dean of the School of Science, Engineering and Technology Professor Dr. Md Ashraful Alam, and RIC Joint Director Professor Dr. Md Asaduzzaman, spoke at the function.

Following the inaugural session, four technical sessions were held on "Developing a Research Identity and Research Ethics", "Research Skills and Methodology", "Publication, Dissemination and Collaboration", and "Research Opportunities and Funding: Khulna University and Beyond".

The sessions were conducted by the Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer and RIC Director, focusing on research ethics, research skill development, publication strategies, collaboration and funding opportunities.
