The partial decomposed body of Furkan Mollah, the prime suspect of brutally quintuple murder of Kapasia upazila of Gazipur, was recovered from the Padma river on Saturday.

The River Police and Fire Service personnel retrieved the body around 4:00 PM from the old Padma river at Ghordour area of Louhajang upazila in Munshiganj.

Mawa River Police Outpost In-charge Mohammad Elias stated that locals spotted the floating body around 1:15 PM and alerted authorities.

Due to prolonged immersion in water, the body was highly distorted and partially decomposed, with parts of the face and fingers missing. However, relatives initially identified the body as that of Furkan Miah, he added.

On May 8, Furkan allegedly slaughtered and strangled his wife, Sharmin Khanam, 30, their three daughters, Meem Khanam, 15, Umme Habiba, 8 and Faria, 2 and Sharmin’s younger brother, Rasul Miah, 22.

Following the murders, the victim's father, Shahadat Mollah, filed a case with Kapasia Police Station naming Furkan as the prime accused alongside three to four unidentified individuals.
Kapasia Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Shahinur Alam confirmed that the case's investigating officer, Inspector Md. Jobayer, accompanied the relatives to the spot to verify the identity.

The body has been sent to a hospital for an autopsy and DNA testing to ensure definitive identification, the OC added.

High Court lawyer Saiful Islam Mollah noted that if investigators find no evidence linking anyone else to the crime, a final report will be submitted to the court, legally concluding the investigation.
