Key suspect held over child rape, murder in Narsingdi

Police have arrested the prime suspect in the rape and murder of a child at Chattogram’s Hathazari upazila from Narsingdi district.

The arrested, identified as 19-year-old Md. Faisal, was apprehended on Wednesday from Tonkpara area under Nilakshi union of Raipura upazila in Narsingdi. 

According to police sources, the incident took place on March 26, when the victim was threatened and brutally raped inside a cotton warehouse. When the child began to scream, Faisal and his accomplices strangled her to death and hid the body under a pile of sacks inside the warehouse before fleeing into hiding.

Following the incident, police launched a series of drives across various regions. The breakthrough came after a continuous 72-hour operation that led to Faisal's arrest in Narsingdi.

Hathazari Model Police Station officer-in-charge (OC)  Md. Jahidur Rahman stated that Faisal confessed to his involvement during primary interrogation. He was subsequently produced before a court, where he gave a formal confessional statement.

Drives are currently underway to arrest the remaining suspects based on the information obtained from Faisal's confession, the OC added.
