JOYPURHAT, June 19: Judge Abdur Rahman of the Joypurhat Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal and also Judge of the Special District and Sessions Judge Court on Thursday afternoon sentenced a farmer to life-term jail and also fined him Tk 50,000, in default, to serve 6 more months in jail for raping a seven-year-old child.
The convicted Abdur Rahim alias Kaylya Mandal, 53, is the son of late Jasim Uddin alias Jamir Mandal of Jaliapara Village in Khetlal Upazila of Joypurhat.
Public Prosecutor (PP) Rinat Ferdousi Rinit confirmed the verdict and said that on the morning of August 29, 2017, the child was playing near the house. At that time, convict Abdur Rahim took the child inside a cucumber field on the pretext of giving her cucumbers and raped her. Later, when the child told her parents about the matter, she was admitted to Khetlal Upazila Health Complex and later to Joypurhat Modern District Hospital for advanced treatment. The child's father filed a case with Khetlal Police Station on August 30.
