Police have recovered 750 cartons of 'Fresh' brand soybean oil worth approximately Tk 2.5 million that had been misappropriated from Sonargaon, Narayanganj. The truck used to transport the goods was also seized, while the accused truck driver, Md. Al Amin Gazi, 30, was arrested.
The recovery operation was carried out on Friday through separate raids in Kaliakair of Gazipur and Aminbazar in Savar, Dhaka, by a special team from Sonargaon Police Station. The accused was produced before a Narayanganj court on Saturday.
According to police, on July 6 at around 5:30 pm, a truck (registration number Sylhet-T 11-0658) carrying 750 cartons of *Fresh* soybean oil left Meghna Group’s factory in Gangganagar under Pirojpur Union of Sonargaon for Rangpur. The consignment was valued at around Tk 2.5 million.
Instead of delivering the goods to their designated destination, the truck driver allegedly disappeared with both the vehicle and the consignment.
Following the incident, Md. Hasan Ali, manager of Fahima E-Transport, filed a fraud case with Sonargaon Police Station.
Police launched an investigation using information technology and intelligence. At around 5:30 pm on Friday, the accused driver was arrested from Kaliakair in Gazipur. Based on his confession, police later recovered all 750 cartons of soybean oil along with the truck from the Aminbazar area of Savar later that night.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Sarwar of Sonargaon Police Station said the prime suspect had been arrested and the stolen goods successfully recovered. He added that the investigation is ongoing to determine whether any other individuals were involved in the incident.
