Stoning on Cox's Bazar route continues: Window shattered, 1 Hurt

A passenger was injured when miscreants threw stones at the Dhaka-bound 'Tourist Express' train, shattering a window pane in Cox's Bazar.
The incident occurred around 8:30PM on Thursday, July 30 near Dulahazara in Chakaria.
According to eyewitnesses, the train departed Cox's Bazar station for Dhaka at 7:47PM. As it passed the Islamabad area of Chakaria and approached Dulahazara, stones were suddenly hurled at the train from outside.
The severe impact shattered the window pane of coach 'Jha', a non-AC compartment.
Biplob Kumar Das, a passenger sitting in seat number 11, suffered a cut on his hand from the broken glass. Another passenger named Dipto, seated in the same coach, also sustained a minor hand injury.
Biplob, who works at the Cox's Bazar District Judge Court, was provided first aid inside the train.
Taowhid Murad, an official of a development organization seated in seat number 12, said he was working on his laptop with the window closed when the glass suddenly shattered with a loud bang. He escaped unhurt, but the passenger next to him was injured.
Contacted by phone, Railway Chittagong Divisional Transportation Officer Farhan Mahmud could not be reached for comment.
Chittagong Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurul Huda said he had not received details of the incident yet but was looking into the matter.
Passengers onboard expressed concern over the delayed arrival of train attendants and guards following the incident. They pointed out that people choose trains for safety, but such stone-pelting poses a severe threat to human life.
According to railway statistics, at least 147 train-stoning incidents have occurred across various routes in the eastern zone over the past year, injuring 40 passengers.
The Cox's Bazar route recorded the highest number of incidents, with 15 people injured in at least 40 stone-pelting events during this period. Four pairs of trains run daily on this route connecting Dhaka and Chattogram, making the ongoing attacks a major security concern.
