Police has arrested a drug dealer along with Yaba pills during a special drive in the Masterpara area of Daulatpur upazila.
The detainee was identified as Mehedi Hasan, son of the late Esken Ali of Purba-para village under the upazila. He was arrested late Thursday night.
A police team from Daulatpur Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Khaledur Rahman, conducted the raid at Mehedi’s rented house in Masterpara, adjacent to the police station, and recovered Yaba pills.
Police said Mehedi had been residing in the rented house for a long time and running his illegal drug trade from there.
The seized Yaba tablets were confiscated, and legal action was initiated against the detainee under the Narcotics Control Act.
The drive came hours after local BNP Member of Parliament Alhaj Reza Ahmed Bachchu Molla issued a strict warning against drugs during a law and order meeting at the Upazila Parishad conference room on Thursday.
The MP declared a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, emphasizing that drugs must be eradicated from Daulatpur at all costs, regardless of political affiliations.
Following the MP's directive, police launched the special drive under the leadership of newly joined OC Md Khaledur Rahman. Police added that such anti-narcotics drives will continue in the future.
