A schoolgirl who was allegedly abducted from Sadullapur in Gaibandha has been rescued from Narayanganj, while the prime accused in the abduction case was arrested during a joint operation by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), officials said.
The accused, Md Mehedul Islam, 19, was arrested on Saturday night (August 1) from an area near Al Madina Mosque in Volail Morakhalpar of Fatullah upazila in Narayanganj, during a joint operation conducted by RAB-13’s CPC-3, Gaibandha unit and RAB-11. The abducted schoolgirl was also rescued from the spot.
According to RAB, the victim is an eighth-grade student of Kishamat Sherpur Girls’ High School and also studied Arabic at Tarbiyatul Umma Women’s Madrasa. The accused allegedly used to harass her by proposing a romantic relationship while she was commuting to school. After she rejected his proposal, she informed her family about the matter.
RAB said the situation led to a dispute after the girl’s family informed the accused’s guardians about the incident.
According to the case statement, on the morning of June 6, Mehedul Islam and his associates allegedly abducted the girl from in front of a furniture shop at South Kajibari Santola area in Sadullapur while she was returning home from the madrasa. They allegedly took her away in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw.
Later, the victim’s mother filed an abduction case with Sadullapur Police Station on June 12. Further legal action is underway, RAB said.
