Persistent load shedding has disrupted daily life and tourism in Kuakata, with residents and business owners reporting up to 15 to 16 power outages a day due to an electricity shortage.

Officials of the Kuakata Zonal Office under the Patuakhali Rural Electricity Association said the area currently requires 11-12 megawatts of electricity but is receiving only 5-6 megawatts from the national grid.

The power shortfall has forced hotels, resorts and restaurants to rely heavily on generators, significantly increasing operating costs and causing inconvenience to tourists.

Business owners said frequent outages, including at night, have led to higher fuel expenses and growing dissatisfaction among visitors.

Residents and tourism stakeholders urged the authorities to increase electricity supply and introduce a dedicated power allocation for Kuakata to support the country’s popular beach destination and protect the local tourism industry.
