Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has arrested former joint secretary Jaglul Pasha, who testified in former prime minister and former BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s case.

He was arrested at around 8:45 pm on Tuesday from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area in Dhaka.

DMP Additional Commissioner and DB’s Chief Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the arrest to The Daily Observer on Wednesday evening.

He said Jaglul Pasha has been shown arrested in a case filed over the alleged obstruction created by placing sand-laden trucks in front of the office of then BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Gulshan.

The DB boss also alleged that Jaglul Pasha had given false testimony against former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.

He added that Jaglul Pasha is also accused in multiple cases, including those related to killings during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

The DB official said police received intelligence that Jaglul Pasha was returning to Dhaka by air from Cox’s Bazar. He was subsequently arrested in the airport area.

According to DB sources, Jaglul Pasha is facing several cases.

These include a case under the Special Powers Act filed with Gulshan Police Station, a murder case linked to the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement filed with Jatrabari Police Station, a case related to Operation “Eagle Hunt’’ filed with Shibganj Police Station in Chapainawabganj, and the murder case of BNP leader Altab Hossain filed with Daulatpur Police Station in Kushtia.
