Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Wednesday observed the July Mass Uprising Day with a series of programmes, including a victory rally, the singing of the national anthem in chorus, a marathon and the unveiling of a commemorative magazine highlighting the university’s role in the July uprising.
The day’s main programme began around 12:00 pm at the Central Shaheed Minar, where teachers, students, officials and employees joined together to sing the national anthem. A victory rally later marched through different roads of the campus before concluding at Odommo-24, the monument built in memory of the July uprising.
Inaugurating the rally, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said the spirit of the 2024 July Mass Uprising, like that of the 1971 Liberation War, must remain a permanent part of the nation’s collective memory.
