Tree plantation and storytelling campaign held at Anirban Library

A tree plantation and storytelling campaign was held at Anirban Library in Paikgachha upazila of Khulna on Wednesday, with environmentalists and community members calling for greater tree plantation to protect ecological balance and safeguard the coastal environment.

The campaign was organised at the library premises in Mahmudkati around 9AM under the theme, “Plant trees, save the environment; build a green world for a healthy life.”

Dream Research and Development Foundation and Sundarbans and Coastal Protection Movement jointly organised the programme.

Associate Professor Safiar Rahman, a writer and tree enthusiast, inaugurated the event. Palli physician Basudev Roy, vice-president of Anirban Library, chaired the programme, moderated by journalist Nikhil Bhadra, convener of the Sundarbans and Coastal Protection Movement.

Mir Mohammad Ali, assistant professor at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, attended the event as the chief guest.

Former Dhaka Reporters Unity president Rafiqul Islam Azad, River Bangla editor Foysal Ahmed, Daily Jug Barta editor Md Rafiqul Islam Sujon, Anirban Library general secretary Prabhat Debnath, environmentalist and journalist Shakila Parvin Ruma, journalist Md Hasib Sardar and student Riyad Hossain, among others, spoke at the programme.

The speakers highlighted the importance of protecting the environment, expanding tree plantation in coastal areas and encouraging the younger generation to develop a closer relationship with nature.

Following the discussion, participants planted fruit-bearing and forest tree saplings on the premises of Anirban Library.
