Amtali UNO returns Tk 37.5 lakh unspent project money

AMTALI, BARGUNA, Aug 14: Going beyond the conventional mentality that the entire government allocation money must be spent, the Amtali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muhammad Jafar Arif Chowdhury has set an example by completing the work of re-excavating two canals, planting trees on both banks of the canals and returning the unspent Tk 37,50,540 to the government treasury on August 8.

It is known that the government took the initiative to re-excavate two canals in Amtali Upazila under the employment project for the extremely poor. The Department of Disaster Management allocated Tk 77,28,842 for the re-excavation of three kilometres of the Paschim Kewabunia Canal in Kukua Union and Tk 51,53,995 for the re-excavation of two kilometres of the Pashurbunia Canal in Haldia Union on April 8 last. The excavation work was completed under the supervision of UNO Muhammad Zafar Arif Chowdhury as per the work order. Later, different species of trees were planted on both banks of the canal. After completing all the work, the unspent Tk 37,50,540 was returned to the government treasury.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Runu Begum said that the excavation work has been completed as per the project work order under the guidance, work plan and supervision of the UNO. After the work, a significant amount of unspent money has been returned to the government treasury.

UNO Muhammad Zafar Arif Chowdhury told media personnel that the canal re-excavation is a great initiative of the government. Everyone concerned has worked tirelessly to implement the initiative properly. In addition to the excavation of the canal, various species of trees have been planted on both banks to enhance the beauty and protect the environment. After the excavation and tree planting of the two canals, the money has been returned to the government treasury.
