An Assamese woman has paid tribute to late singer Zubeen Garg by weaving his popular songs and memories into a 25-foot-long traditional gamocha.
Dalimy Lahon Gogoi of Assam created the commemorative piece, featuring lines from nine of Garg’s popular songs, along with nine inspirational quotes associated with the singer. Floral motifs have been incorporated alongside the lyrics and quotes, turning the traditional textile into a visual tribute to the late artist.
Dalimy began the project about a month after Garg’s death and spent five months weaving the piece on her own loom.
Her aim was to preserve the singer’s music and legacy not only in memory but also through Assam’s traditional weaving culture.
In Assam, the gamocha is more than a piece of cloth. It is closely associated with the state’s culture, identity, honour and hospitality. By weaving Garg’s songs into the traditional textile, Dalimy has brought together two important elements of Assamese culture"handloom and music.
