29 held in anti-drug drives in Noakhali, Gopalganj

At least 29 people were arrested in separate anti-drug operations in Noakhali and Gopalganj districts on Wednesday.

NOAKHALI: Under the direction of District Superintendent of Police (SP) N M Nasiruddin, the district police have conducted a total of 26 anti-drug operations in all police stations of the district on Wednesday, arrested and sentenced 27 people, recovered 85 pieces of yaba tablets and 130 grams of hemp.

According to the police, 4 people were arrested in regular cases during the operation, 85 pieces of yaba tablets and 130 grams of hemp were seized at that time, and 3 regular cases have been filed in drug-related incidents. In addition, 23 people were sentenced and fined for various terms through mobile courts. 

Noakhali District Police said that a “zero tolerance” policy is being followed against drugs. Such operations will continue against those involved in drug trade, supply and consumption.

GOPALGANJ: The Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested two alleged drug dealers along with 64,123 yaba tablets, Tk 4.55 lakh in cash and a microbus allegedly used to transport the drugs from the LGED intersection in the town early Wednesday.

The arrested are Ujjal Molla, 40, of Gopalganj, and his associate Wasim Molla, 25.
Gopalganj Assistant SP Md Hasanur Rahman said more than 10 drug-related cases have been filed against Ujjal with different police stations in the country. Police are preparing to take legal action against them under the Narcotics Control Act.
