Khulna SP seeks public, media support to control crime

The newly appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) of Khulna, Sarkar Omar Faruq, stated that controlling crime will not be complex if the police, administration, journalists, teachers, and people from various professions work together.

He made the observations during an introductory and views-exchange meeting with journalists on Tuesday (August 25) afternoon.

SP Omar Faruq said officers will attempt to work with maximum professionalism, dedication, and honesty. However, it is not possible for the police alone to handle everything. Public help and media cooperation are essential.

Addressing journalists, he urged them to deliver information regarding crimes and various issues to the police. He expressed the force's desire to act on information provided by journalists to protect public interests.

Regarding the law and order situation in Khulna, the new SP stated that police must become more active against various crimes, including narcotics, extortion, kidnapping, and murder. He called on the police, district administration, media community, and relevant stakeholders to work together to address these issues.

He stated that no single party can resolve all problems alone. Effective action against criminals is possible when the public, journalists, police, administration, teachers, and professionals unite.

Omar Faruq noted that criminals are few in number compared to the majority of law-abiding citizens. He expressed his determination to make every effort to improve the law and order situation through public cooperation, media support, and police professionalism.

The new police chief also addressed fake online journalism. He noted that fake online journalism is not only a problem in Khulna but a nationwide issue.

He called for coordinated efforts among the police, district administration, and the journalist community to combat such journalism, stressing that cooperation from all stakeholders is necessary.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Abir Siddique Shuvo and Additional Superintendent of Police (A-Circle) Saiful Islam were present at the meeting.
