Fatikchhari MP Sarwar Alamgir expressed anger over the unhygienic environment, dirty drains and stagnant water at Fatikchhari Upazila Health Complex during a surprise visit on Saturday.
He visited the hospital around noon and instructed the authorities to step up cleaning efforts and restore the drainage system.
During the visit, the MP inspected different wards and the hospital premises, where several drains were found clogged with waste and stagnant water. The prolonged waterlogging could create breeding grounds for mosquitoes, including Aedes, posing additional health risks to patients.
He directed the hospital authorities to clean the drains, remove stagnant water and ensure regular cleaning of the premises.
The MP also spoke to patients and their relatives, who raised complaints about the quality of healthcare, infrastructural limitations and the hospital environment. He assured them that their concerns would be addressed.
Later, he attended a meeting with doctors, officials and employees at the hospital auditorium, where they discussed improving healthcare services, addressing staff shortages and reducing patients’ suffering.
Fatikchhari Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Touhidul Alam, Resident Medical Officer Dr Kamrul Islam and Dr SM Saidul Alam, among others, were present.
