Manchester United marked their return to the UEFA Champions League after nearly three years with a resounding 4-0 victory over Azerbaijani side Sabah at Old Trafford on Thursday.
Matheus Cunha opened the scoring from close range in the 27th minute, setting the tone for a dominant first-half performance under manager Michael Carrick.
The Red Devils sealed the outcome before the interval with two quickfire goals in three minutes. Captain Bruno Fernandes converted a pass from Youri Tielemans, before Benjamin Sesko finished off an assist from Bryan Mbeumo to make it 3-0.
Early in the second half, a goalkeeper error from Sabah's Pokatilov allowed defender Lisandro Martinez to slide the ball into an open net to complete the scoring.
The victory provides an impressive boost for Carrick’s side as they prepare for Sunday's Manchester Derby against Manchester City.
