An uncle and his teenage nephew were seriously injured after a man allegedly attacked them with a machete following an argument over sand in Baimyakhali area of Pekua municipality on Saturday afternoon.
The injured were identified as Choton, 17 and his uncle Askar Ali, 28. The incident occurred around 2PM.
According to locals, the dispute began when Mubin, 30, questioned Choton about sand piled beside a road. An argument followed, after which Mubin allegedly attacked Choton with a machete.
When Askar intervened to protect his nephew, Mubin allegedly attacked him as well. Three of Askar’s fingers were reportedly almost severed.
Mubin allegedly tried to flee after the attack but was caught by locals and later detained by police. The weapon used in the attack was also recovered.
The injured were initially taken to Pekua Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment due to the severity of their injuries.
Pekua Police Station OC Md Mehedi Hasan confirmed the arrest and said police took immediate action after receiving information about the incident.
