Ctg microbus-covered van accident death toll rises to 4

The accident occurred around 1:30AM on Sunday at the Shikalbaha Choumuhani area of the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway as the passengers were returning from a wedding ceremony.

The deceased were identified as siblings Mimta and Morshed, children of Manzur Alam of North Maijpara in Eidgaon union of Cox’s Bazar; their maternal uncle Ferdous Alam Firoz; and microbus driver Munna.

Ferdous Alam Firoz was the proprietor of Nurjahan Medicor at Arafat Shopping Complex in Eidgaon. He was a resident of Gomatoli area in Pokkhali union.

According to eyewitnesses, the microbus was travelling from Ukhiya towards Chattogram after the passengers attended a wedding. After crossing the Shah Amanat Bridge, it collided with a covered van while the van was reportedly making a U-turn at high speed near College Bazar.

Three people died on the spot. Another critically injured passenger died after being taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

On information, police and Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene and sent those to CMCH. 

Nur Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli Police Station, confirmed the accident and said police are investigating the reason behind the collision.
