
Two of the injured, including the microbus driver, are reportedly in critical condition. The death toll may rise, authorities said.
The accident occurred around 1:30 AM on Sunday (September 13) in the College Bazar area of Karnaphuli upazila on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway.
According to eyewitnesses, the covered van was travelling from the Shah Amanat Bridge and collided with a microbus coming from the opposite direction while making a high-speed U-turn in the College Bazar area.
The microbus was heading towards Chattogram from Ukhiya.
Several passengers of the microbus sustained serious injuries in the collision. Two people, including a woman, died at the scene.
On receiving the information, police and a team from the Fire Service went to the scene and rescued the eight injured people before sending them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Police said two of the injured, including the microbus driver, are in critical condition.
The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
Karnaphuli Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nur Ahmed confirmed the incident.
