
The deceased was identified as Asadul Haque, 38. The incident took place around 4:00 AM on Saturday (September 12) in the border area under the jurisdiction of the Chanderhat Border Outpost (BOP) in Pirganj upazila.
Asadul was the son of Abdul Wazed of South Indrail village in Bairchuna Union of Pirganj upazila. The two detained Bangladeshis were identified as Md Mostakim, son of Ahed Ali of North Indrail village, and Shri Uda, son of Munsha Narayan of Indrail village, both in Bairchuna Union.
According to local sources, a patrol team of the Chokshibanand Camp under the 63 BSF Battalion opened fire on a group of Bangladeshi alleged smugglers in the Raiganj subdivision of North Dinajpur district, approximately 1.5 kilometres inside Indian territory from border pillar No. 333/MP, within the area of responsibility of the Chanderhat BOP under the Dinajpur 42nd Battalion of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Asadul was seriously injured after being shot, while the BSF detained two others.
He was later taken to Kaliyaganj General Hospital in India, where he died while undergoing treatment in the morning, according to reports.
Following the incident, the Dinajpur 42nd Battalion of the BGB has been in contact with the 63rd BSF Battalion. The BGB is reportedly scheduled to hold a flag meeting with the BSF on Sunday (September 13) to discuss the incident.
