Attempt to push 9 into B'desh at Birampur border, 6 missing

The Border Security Force (BSF) of India allegedly attempted to push nine people into Bangladesh through the Birampur border in Dinajpur, while six of them remain unaccounted for.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained two women and a man and sent them back to India. The whereabouts of the other six could not be confirmed.

The incident took place around 9:00 PM on Thursday near border pillar No. 291/20-S in the Khiyarmamudpur border area of Katla Union No. 2 in Birampur upazila.

According to local sources, nine men and women entered Bangladesh from India while a wedding ceremony was underway at a house in Khiyarmamudpur village.

Three of them reportedly took shelter at a local house. After being informed, BGB members conducted a drive and detained the three before sending them back to India.

Locals claimed the other six people fled the area and could not be traced.

Subedar Mostafizur Rahman, commander of Bhaigor BOP under Joypurhat Battalion (20 BGB), said, “The BSF was bringing two women and a man into Bangladesh. We sent them back.”
