Justin Greaves’ brilliant century helps west Indies post challenging total against India

Justin Greaves struck a superb century as West Indies posted a challenging 295 for seven against India in the first innings in Thiruvananthapuram.

After winning the toss, India captain Shubman Gill opted to bowl first, but the decision initially backfired as West Indies openers John Campbell and Justin Greaves put together an impressive 135-run partnership.

Campbell was the first to depart, dismissed by India spinner Kuldeep Yadav for 62 off 60 balls in the 20th over. Kuldeep then produced a remarkable spell, claiming several quick wickets as West Indies slipped from 176 for one to 198 for five.

Greaves was among those dismissed during the collapse after scoring a magnificent 101 off 108 balls. Keacy Carty made 13, Shai Hope scored 12, while Jewel Andrew was dismissed without scoring.

West Indies, however, recovered strongly in the latter stages. Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase added valuable runs to take the team past the 250-run mark. Chase was dismissed for 24.

Matthew Forde then scored seven before departing, but Jangoo continued his aggressive innings and helped West Indies reach 295 for seven alongside Gudakesh Motie.

Jangoo remained unbeaten on 58 off 43 balls.

For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler, finishing with four wickets for 40 runs. Prasidh Krishna claimed two wickets, while Nitish Kumar Reddy took one.

India now need 296 runs to win the match.
