Pirojpur records 58 new dengue cases in 24 hours

Dengue situation has taken a concerning turn, with 58 new patients admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours, according to the district health department in Pirojpur.

The district has recorded the highest number of dengue cases among the 64 districts in the country and is also at the top of Barishal Division, the health department said.

A total of 2,970 dengue patients have been admitted to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital and seven upazila health complexes this year. Of them, 164 are currently undergoing treatment, 2,805 have recovered and returned home, and one person has died.

Currently, 18 dengue patients are receiving treatment at Pirojpur Sadar Hospital, seven at Nazirpur Upazila Health Complex, 13 at Nesarabad, four at Kawkhali, 11 at Bhandaria, two at Mathbaria and three at Indurkani.

Many dengue patients are also reportedly receiving treatment at private clinics.

The rising number of patients has caused concern among general patients and their attendants at Pirojpur Sadar Hospital. Patients and relatives have alleged that limited space is forcing dengue and general patients to stay in close proximity.

They fear this could increase the risk of infection and have called for separate wards or rooms for dengue patients.

A separate dengue corner has been opened at the district hospital, while a special medical team has been formed to provide continuous treatment and monitoring.

Pirojpur Civil Surgeon Dr Md Matiur Rahman has advised people to remain alert and take preventive measures against dengue.

Medicine consultant Dr Suranjit Kumar Saha said the number of dengue patients in Pirojpur has remained high and appears to be increasing.

“Those coming for treatment are also facing some difficulties. It is becoming difficult for us as healthcare providers to manage the situation, but we are continuing our efforts,” he said.

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Md Nizam Uddin said around 350 patients are admitted to the hospital every day, making it difficult for the staff to manage the situation.

The health department has urged people to keep their surroundings clean, remove stagnant water and destroy mosquito breeding grounds. It has also advised people to seek medical attention promptly if they develop symptoms of dengue.
