A farmer was killed and three others were injured in an attack over the removal of bitter gourd plants from a piece of land in Dhamoirhat upazila of Naogaon on Friday evening.
The deceased was identified as Abul Kashem, 42, son of late Raj Mahmud of Boro Shibpur Masterpara village under Jahanpur Union.
The injured were identified as Kashem’s son Md Said, 22, and his two brothers, Muktar Ali, 50, and Badr Uddin, 55. They are currently undergoing treatment at Joypurhat Sadar Hospital.
According to locals, Kashem had an argument with Md Roni, 35, son of Abdul Hakim and a resident of the same village, over removing bitter gourd plants from the land. At one point, the argument escalated into a clash between the two sides.
During the clash, Roni’s associates allegedly stabbed Kashem in the lower back near his waist with a sharp knife. When his son Said and two brothers tried to rescue him, they were also attacked with sharp weapons and seriously injured.
Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to Joypurhat Sadar Hospital. Kashem died while undergoing treatment at around 7pm. The other three injured people are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital in critical condition.
Dhamoirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mintu Rahman confirmed the incident and said, "police were heading to the scene after receiving the information. The process of recovering the body and taking legal action is underway."
As of the filing of this report, preparations were underway to file a case with the police station.
