Is Farooki making a comeback in Mosharraf Karim’s 420?

'420', a comedy series by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, remains one of the most talked-about shows in the country's television history. Released in 2007, the series, which featured political satire, garnered an immense response from viewers. Seventeen years later, in 2024, the director returned with a sequel titled '840', which also gained significant popularity. Now, the director has hinted at a third installment: a follow-up to '840' titled '1680'.

On Sunday night, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki shared a photo on social media featuring himself alongside Mosharraf Karim, the lead actor of '420'. Following the circulation of the image, netizens speculated that the director and the actor were captured together on a film set. Maintaining a sense of mystery, Farooki wrote in the post: "'420' is done. And so is '840'. Is it time for '1680'? What do you guys think?"

It is clear from Farooki’s post that he intends to return with a third installment, '1680', featuring Mosharraf Karim. However, while the previous sequel, '840', was produced as a feature-length film, Farooki has not yet clarified the format for this upcoming installment.

When asked for further details regarding this new project, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki kept the mystery alive. "I have shared everything I wanted to say on Facebook," the director remarked. "I don’t want to disclose anything more at this moment."

The story of the original '420' series followed two thieves who arrive in Dhaka and become entangled in politics. The cast included Mosharraf Karim, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Lutfor Rahman George, Sohel Khan, Marzuk Russell, and others.

The sequel, '840', focused on the lives of ousted political leaders and featured a standout performance by the popular contemporary actor Nasir Uddin Khan. Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shahriar Nazim Joy, Marzuk Russell, Zakia Bari Mamo, and several others have also been spotted. Now, the audience is looking forward to ‘1680’.
