RAB DG vows to eliminate miscreants from Ctg jungle

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General A K M Shahidur Rahman has vowed to eliminate criminals and illegal armed elements hiding in the jungle of Salimpur under Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram district.

He made the announcement on Tuesday while addressing journalists after the funeral of RAB officer Subedar Motaleb Hossain, who was killed in a violent attack during an operation in the area.

Salimpur jungle has reportedly become a hideout for miscreants, and RAB will soon take action to eliminate those living there illegally and carrying arms, said the DG.

“Subedar Motaleb was martyred. We will bring those responsible to justice and ensure they are punished through judicial proceedings at any cost. A case has been registered, and RAB will monitor the matter until the verdict is delivered and implemented,” the DG said.

He also expressed condolences to Motaleb’s family, acknowledging the irreparable loss suffered by his wife and children, and assured that RAB will stand by the family.

The attack occurred on Monday in Jungle Salimpur, when RAB Deputy Assistant Director Motaleb Hossain and his team went to conduct an operation based on intelligence that Yasin, a local Rukon Group leader, would be present at the inauguration of a BNP office in the area.

During the operation, followers of Yasin Group allegedly attacked RAB members, taking four officers and a source named Mona as hostages. Weapons were seized, and the officers were shot on the spot.

Motaleb Hossain, a BGB Naib Subedar serving on deputation in RAB, was declared dead at the Combined Military Hospital, where the other injured personnel are receiving treatment.

Chattogram District Police Additional Superintendent of Police Md Russell said a joint operation with the army and other forces will be conducted soon to apprehend those involved.

No written complaint has yet been filed, and no arrests have been made so far, he added.
