Sylhet-Chhatak Rail Project: Less Than 20% Work Done

Rehabilitation work on the Sylhet-Chhatak railway line has not reached even 20% completion despite the project deadline expiring.

Locals blamed the delay on the contractor and railway authorities. The contractor, however, cited equipment import problems and heavy rainfall.

The 34-km railway line has remained closed since being damaged in the 2022 floods. The Tk 217.34-crore rehabilitation project began in 2025 and was scheduled to finish in August.

Project engineer Sajibur Rahman said the deadline has been extended by another year.
