FENI, Feb 7: The Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Feni Sadar, Jasim Uddin, has been withdrawn from all election-related duties after Gan Adhikar Parishad candidate Tarikul Islam Bhuiya staged a 32-hour hunger strike demanding his removal. The decision was confirmed Friday afternoon by Md. Nabinewaz, member-secretary of the vigilance committee investigating electoral code violations and Deputy Director of the Local Government Division.
Bhuiya began the protest Thursday at 8:30am in front of the district returning officer's office, citing alleged threats and favoritism toward a rival candidate. Following statements from both parties and a review of the investigation, the District Returning Officer and DC Monira Haque approved the withdrawal, though AC Jasim Uddin will continue his regular administrative duties.
The candidate ended his hunger strike Friday evening, thanking the media, public, and law enforcement for supporting peaceful protest.
