Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) has deployed 50 patrol teams across Chattogram division to strengthen security ahead of 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by RAB-7 Commander Lt Col Md Hafizur Rahman during a briefing at Enayet Bazar Women’s College centre in the city.

He said security measures have been intensified in line with directives from the Election Commission and RAB Forces Headquarters to maintain law and order during the election period.

According to the RAB official, 50 patrol teams have been deployed in 20 parliamentary constituencies across four districts in Chattogram region. A dog squad and a bomb disposal unit have also been placed on duty. The special security operations will continue until February 14.

Checkposts have been set up at key entry points in the city and various upazilas to ensure smooth and fair polling. Law enforcers are conducting searches of suspected individuals and vehicles, while joint patrols are being carried out in coordination with other agencies to prevent sabotage and untoward incidents.

Intelligence surveillance has also been strengthened in areas under RAB’s jurisdiction.

Lt Col Hafizur Rahman said that 16 parliamentary constituencies fall within Chattogram district and the metropolitan area, where 40 patrol teams have been deployed considering their importance.

“Maximum security has been ensured so that voters can go to polling centres without fear and exercise their voting rights,” he said.

He warned that strict legal action would be taken against any form of violence or sabotage, adding that RAB remains on the highest alert to ensure the election and referendum are held peacefully.
