Chuadanga recorded the country’s highest temperature for the third consecutive day on Friday, with the mercury rising to 39.7 degrees Celsius, intensifying public discomfort and disrupting daily life.

According to the district meteorological office, the temperature peaked at 3:00 PM with humidity at 31 percent, while it stood at 37 degrees Celsius at noon.

The district has seen a steady rise in temperatures in recent days, with 36.3 degrees Celsius recorded on April 1 and 38.5 degrees Celsius on April 2.

A mild to moderate heat wave is currently sweeping across the area, leaving streets largely deserted as residents avoid going outdoors unless necessary.

Those who ventured outside were seen using umbrellas, hats, or cloth coverings to protect themselves from the intense sunlight.

Outdoor workers and day labourers are among the worst affected by the scorching conditions.

Rickshaw and van drivers reported a drop in passengers, while agricultural workers continue their tasks under the harsh sun, often pausing for rest in shaded areas.

The soaring temperatures have also driven up demand for cold beverages and seasonal refreshments such as sugarcane juice.

Chuadanga First Class Weather Observatory in-charge Jaminur Rahman said the mild to moderate heat wave is likely to persist for the next few days, with no immediate forecast of rainfall.
