A government tag officer was attacked and his arm was broken by a group of youths over a dispute regarding octane distribution in Khagrachhari municipal town on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place around 2:40 PM in Mohajan Para area.

The injured tag officer, Hemanta Chakma, is an employee of Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila Land Office.

According to sources, fuel distribution at Meherun Nesa Filling Station began at 9:00 AM under a rationing system, where octane was being sold in limited quantities at Tk 500 per allocation.

A group of youths reportedly demanded additional octane in plastic bottles, which the tag officer refused to provide.

Later, while Hemanta Chakma was having lunch at a local shop in Mohajan Para, the same group allegedly dragged him outside and assaulted him with sticks, leaving him with a broken arm.

Following the incident, locals rushed him to Khagrachhari General Hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Faria Sultana said that preparations are underway to identify those involved in this incident and take legal action.
