Ex-Biman MD Shafikur gets bail 

 
A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to former Biman Bangladesh Airlines Managing Director and CEO Shafikur Rahman in a case over the alleged abuse of a child domestic worker.

Judge Moin Uddin Chowdhury of Dhaka's Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-3 approved bail on a Tk 5,000 bond after a hearing. The defense said Rahman had been in custody since February 2 and sought bail on health and humanitarian grounds.

According to the case, an 11-year-old girl employed at Rahman's residence since June last year was last seen in good health by her father on November 2. She was later allegedly kept from contacting her family.

On January 31, the family was informed she was ill and asked to take her back. Her father reported multiple injury marks on her body, alleging she had been beaten and burned with a heated object.

The child was admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur.

Police arrested Rahman, his wife, and two others on February 2 from a residence in Uttara. The case was filed with Uttara West Police Station and the accused were sent to jail following their arrest.
