A free medical camp was held at Jatair Pagla Bazar Balika High School ground in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat district on Tuesday.
The daylong camp was organised by Shomir Uddin Chowdhury Waqf Estate, where more than a thousand poor and underprivileged people received free medical treatment and medicines.
A 13-member specialist medical team from Bogura TMS Medical College Hospital provided treatment services in dental, eye, ear, nose, throat, orthopaedic and medicine departments.
Confirming the matter, Waqf Estate Mutawalli and retired Additional SP Md Enamul Haque Chowdhury said the estate has been carrying out various social welfare activities since 1944, following the initiative of his grandfather, late Umir Uddin, who dedicated properties under a waqf for social and religious development in the area.
He said such humanitarian initiatives would continue in the future with cooperation from all.
Aolai Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Ekramul Haque Tawhid Chowdhury thanked the organisers for providing free treatment and medicines to local residents.
Former Mohammadpur union chairman Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury Shahin and members of the estate were also present at the programme.
Local residents expressed satisfaction after receiving free treatment and medicines at the camp.
