Two men lost their lives after being gored by a buffalo at a cattle market in Jamalpur’s Dewanganj upazila. The incident occurred as people gathered to purchase animals ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.
The deceased have been identified as Mujibur Rahman, a resident of Char Madar village in Dewanganj, and Ruhul Amin, from Jaunia village in Rajibpur upazila.
According to police and local sources, the incident began last Sunday when a villager brought several buffaloes to the Sanandbari market for sale. One of the buffaloes suddenly became agitated and charged through the crowded market, attacking multiple people.
Ruhul Amin died while being rushed to the upazila health complex immediately after the attack. Mujibur Rahman, who sustained critical injuries, was transferred to Jamalpur General Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds on Monday night.
The families of the victims expressed deep grief, noting that both men had gone to the market with the intent of fulfilling religious obligations. "My husband went to buy a cow for sacrifice, but everything changed in an instant. We have nothing to blame but fate," said Mujibur Rahman's wife.
Dewanganj Model Thana Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain confirmed the two fatalities. He stated that while the tragic nature of the deaths is clear, no formal written complaints have been lodged with the police regarding the incident so far.
