A paper mill worker was killed in a workplace accident while on duty in Narayanganj on early Monday.
The deceased is Jahangir Hossen, 25, son of Md Kasim Uddin of Cheparajhar area under Atwari upazila in Panchagarh district.
The incident took place at City Paper and Board Mill in Purbo Delpara area of Fatullah in Narayanganj.
Jahangir had been living with his wife and one child in a rented house owned by Liaquat Ali in Purbo Delpara under Fatullah area. He had been working as a dryer operator at the paper mill for the past eight years.
According to police, Jahangir was on duty from 8:00pm Sunday to 8:00am Monday. At around 12:30am, the paper being processed in the machine tore, causing the machine to stop.
He then climbed to the second floor using a staircase to inspect the machine. During the inspection, he accidentally fell from the top of the machine to the ground, sustaining severe injuries to his head, shoulder and hands.
His co-workers rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty physician declared him dead at around 1:20am.
Mahabub Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fatullah Model Police Station, said police had been sent to the scene after receiving the information.
He said legal procedures in connection with the incident are underway.
