The government is considering garment workers' demand for a minimum monthly wage of Tk30,000, Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam said on Monday (November 2).

She said a six-member wage board, comprising representatives of workers and employers and an independent member, would determine a reasonable wage structure considering workers' living costs and the industry's capacity.

Farida urged workers to pursue their demands peacefully amid recent unrest in Gazipur, Ashulia and Hemayetpur, which disrupted production and forced several factories to close.
