BRTA warns of strict action over illegal use of hooters, hydraulic horns

The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has warned of strict legal action against the installation and use of hooters, hydraulic horns and other loud or harsh-sounding horns in motor vehicles, except those used in ambulances, fire service, rescue operations and state emergency services.

In a recently issued emergency notice, the BRTA said the ban is in accordance with Rule 81 of the Road Transport Rules, 2022.

According to the notice, unauthorised horns pose health risks, encourage reckless and high-speed driving and increase the risk of road accidents. The use of hydraulic horns and hooters in some vehicles also creates public nuisance, which is a punishable offence under the law.

The BRTA urged all concerned to refrain from installing or using multi-tone horns, hydraulic horns, hooters and any other horns producing frightening or excessively loud sounds in vehicles, except those used for emergency services.

The authority warned that legal action will be taken against those who violate the directive.
