BTRI holds training on quality tea manufacturing in Sreemangal

Bangladesh Tea Research Institute (BTRI) inaugurated an ‘Open Day Tea Testing Session’ and a training program titled ‘Principles and Process of Quality Tea Manufacturing’ in Sreemangal of Moulvibazar.

Chairman of Bangladesh Tea Board, General Md Mesbah Uddin Ahmed launched the training course as the chief guest at the Project Development Unit (PDU) auditorium of the Bangladesh Tea Board in Sreemangal around 11:00AM on Saturday.

Dr Shefali Bunarjee, Chief Scientific Officer of BTRI, moderated the program.

Tea Board Member (Finance & Commerce) and Joint Secretary Yasmin Parvin Tibriji, Member (R&D) and Joint Secretary Md Moazzem Hossain, Secretary Md Mominur Rashid, BTRI Director Dr Md Ismail Hossain, PDU Director Dr AKM Rafiqul Haque, Finlay Tea CEO Tahsin Ahmed Chowdhury, and National Brokers Limited Managing Director Md Saiful Islam attended as special guests.

Experienced tea planters from Greater Sylhet, Northern Bangladesh, and Chittagong were present at the event alongside officials and trainees of the six-day training program.

Speakers discussed the current quality status of Bangladeshi tea, quality assessment techniques, and the critical importance of quality control. The session highlighted fundamental principles and processes needed to ensure high-standard tea production.

Discussions also focused on maintaining quality across various stages of tea manufacturing, identifying tea characteristics, and refining processing methods.

Following the opening ceremony, a tea testing session took place at BTRI's Tea Testing Room, where around 56 trainees from various tea-producing regions participated.
