Mother and daughter killed under truck wheels on regional highway, father injured

A mother and her 12-year-old daughter were killed after being thrown onto the road and run over by a truck in Ghhoraghat upazila of Dinajpur on Friday. The girl’s father was also injured in the accident.
The accident occurred around 12 noon in the Jamilapur area of Ward No. 1 under Ghhoraghat Municipality.
The deceased were Sampa Begum, 35, wife of Selim Hossain of Nasirabad area in Gobindaganj upazila, and her daughter Nusaifa Akter, 12.
According to local sources, Sampa, her daughter Nusaifa and the girl’s father were travelling by motorcycle to visit their son-in-law’s house in the Baganbari area of Ghhoraghat. When they reached Jamilapur, a truck coming from behind hit their motorcycle.
All three were thrown onto the road by the impact. Sampa and Nusaifa were run over by the truck and died on the spot. The girl’s father was injured in the accident.
Locals rescued the injured man and sent him to a hospital for treatment.
Ghhoraghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam said police were heading to the scene after receiving information about the accident. He confirmed that the mother and daughter had died and another person had been injured.
Legal action in connection with the accident is underway, he added.
